Founded in 1844 Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU) is the oldest technical
university in Eastern Europe and the largest university in Western part of Ukraine.
Lviv Polytechnic consists of: 16 educational and research institutes, Institute of distance learning, Institute of Education, Culture and Connections with Diaspora, ELVIT Research Institute, 105 departments, 6 Colleges, 2 high schools, 4 educational and consulting centers in 4 regions of Ukraine, Preparatory department for foreign citizens “Kompis”.
The University structure includes 37 academic buildings, 15 halls of residence, university hospital, 4 resorts for students and the academic staff, “Prosvita” cultural association.
At present there are over 35 thousand students at Lviv Polytechnic. Professionals are trained in 61 Bachelor directions (list below), 121 Specialist and 114 Master programmes, 93 Ph.D. and 30 Dr.Sc. programmes.
The educational process is provided by 2300 academic staff members, 240 of whom are professors (hold Dr.Sc. degree) and 1530 are associate professors (hold Ph.D. degree).
Foreign students education exists since 1961, the international alumni consists of more than 2800 graduates from 70 countries.
